Mid-County Groundwater Agency to Discuss Basin Sustainability Development Plan

Soquel (May 10, 2017) – At its May 18, 2017 board meeting, the Board of the Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency (MGA) will review the proposed planning process, schedule, and structure to establish a public committee to develop the agency’s Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP).
If approved, the proposed GSP Development Committee may include agricultural users, small water system management, institutional users, business interests, environmental interests and water utility rate payers within the Mid-County Basin boundaries.

The Mid-County Groundwater Agency was formed in 2016 in response to California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014, which requires groundwater basins be sustainably managed by 2040. The Mid-County Groundwater Agency is responsible for managing the Santa Cruz Mid-County Basin, which is in critical overdraft.
