Groundwater Enrichment Sessions

Following the establishment of the MGA in 2016 and preceeding the development of the initial Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) for the Basin, the MGA hosted four workshops to inform the public and GSP Advisory Committee on groundwater planning and management under the SGMA.

Orientation Session 1: Groundwater 101 and SGMA – A Primer for the Community (October 5, 2017)

Objectives:

  1. Understanding fundamental hydrogeologic terms and concepts needed for Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and groundwater modeling
  2. Understanding the background, purpose, and basics of developing a Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) under SGMA

  1. What the Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Basin looks like
  2. Understanding of historic and current Basin conditions

Orientation Session 4: Groundwater Modeling (December 7, 2017)

Objectives:

  1. Provide introduction to groundwater models
  2. Describe how groundwater model will be used for GSP
  3. Describe model of the Mid-County Basin
  4. Outline plans for simulating future groundwater management in the Mid-County Basin
