DWR Public Comment Period on the Basin GSP is Now Open

On February 19, 2020, the Department of Water Resources (DWR) posted the Santa Cruz Mid-County Basin (Basin) Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) on its Sustainable Groundwater Management Act website.  The posting by DWR opens a Public Comment Period on the Basin GSP, which will remain open until May 4, 2020. 

The Basin GSP can be found on the DWR website at: https://sgma.water.ca.gov/portal/gsp/all.

 

MGA Submits Groundwater Sustainability Plan to DWR

The Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency (MGA) successfully submitted its adopted Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) to the California Department of Water Resources (DWR). The GSP was uploaded to DWR's SGMA Portal on Thursday, January 30, 2020. DWR has 20 days in which to process the GSP and open its 75-day comment period. The MGA's GSP submission includes responses to comments received on the Draft GSP.

The Sustainability Plan page of the MGA website includes information about the development of the GSP as well as a link to the GSP submitted to DWR.

Groundwater Model Enrichment Session Recording Available

A recording of the MGA's Groundwater Model Enrichment Session is available for viewing. This webinar occured on February 11, 2019.  This information session was led by staff from Montgomery & Associates, the technical consultants developing the groundwater model for the Santa Cruz Mid-County Basin. The groundwater model is informing the development of the Groundwater Sustainability Plan. Topics covered include: Purpose of Groundwater Modeling; Model Calibration; Water Budget; Baseline Model Assumptions; Model Uses.

DWR Announces Grant Funding Recommendation

(FEBRUARY 7, 2018) SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA – The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) announced Tuesday that it has recommended three grants in Santa Cruz County totaling $4 million to help the development of state-mandated groundwater sustainability plans. Once finalized, the Santa Margarita Groundwater Agency (SMGWA) will receive $1 million, and the Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency (MGA) and Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency (PVWMA) will each receive $1.5 million. Funding for the grant comes from Proposition 1, passed by voters in 2014. Before funding is finalized, DWR is holding a public comment period which will be open until February 21, at 5:00 p.m.

MID-COUNTY GROUNDWATER AGENCY TO DISCUSS BASIN SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Soquel (September 27, 2017) – The Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency (MGA) is kicking off its Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) planning effort. The agency will present four public workshops to orient our Groundwater Sustainability Plan Advisory Committee to groundwater planning and management under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).

Our first workshop is titled: Groundwater 101 and SGMA – A Primer for the Community.

Soquel (August 8, 2017) -The Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency (MGA) is looking for volunteers representing business and institutional water users to serve on its Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) Advisory Committee. Applications for Committee members will be accepted from August 8 through August 22, 2017.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED FOR MID-COUNTY GROUNDWATER AGENCY

Soquel (June 5, 2017) -The Santa Cruz Mid-County Groundwater Agency (MGA) is looking for volunteers to serve on its Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) Advisory Committee. Applications for Committee members will be accepted from June 5 through July 20, 2017. A public meeting will be held on June 29, 2017 from 7-9 PM at Congregational Church of Soquel, 4951 Soquel Dr. Soquel CA to provide the public with more information about the MGA and the role of the GSP Advisory Committee.
